I have been vegetarian (sometimes vegan) for about 23 years now. I have never liked eating lamb or beef, but as I was raised in a meat-eating environment (my Dad worked for Dalgety-Buswell) I was told I had to eat meat "to grow big and strong". I hadn't even heard of vegetarianism until my late teens. I bought a copy of 'Here's Health' from Holland & Barrett and saw an advert placed by the Vegetarian Society.
It was a few years later that I finally took the plunge as a New Year's resolution and went vegan for Lent the same year (1986).
